Study Abroad
Expand your horizons — spend a semester or year at one of our partner universities around the world.
What exactly does 'study abroad' mean?
It's a term used by universities to describe a range of international opportunities — including semester exchanges, dual degree programmes, summer schools, and academic field trips.
At TIU, when we talk about 'study abroad', we typically mean our formal Exchange Programme where you spend either a semester or a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world.
Our International Office works with faculties to identify suitable partner universities that complement and expand your studies here. Our growing portfolio includes partners across South Korea, Europe, Turkey, and beyond.

Duration
Semester abroad
For our Business & Economics, Languages & Humanities and IT & Engineering programmes, study abroad is available for one semester. This is typically integrated into the second year of your Bachelor's degree, allowing you to gain international experience without extending your graduation timeline.
Year abroad
For other subjects that offer a study abroad option, this takes place over a full academic year. This extends a standard undergraduate degree from four to five years, with your year abroad taking place in year three. In this case, you'll then return to complete the final year of your degree at TIU.
If not here, then where?
We provide the opportunity; you decide the destination.
With more than 10 partner universities around the globe to choose from, the world is literally your oyster.
But remember, our Exchange Programme is specific to your department and area of study, so you'll need to choose an option that's available for your subject.

How to apply
It is easy to apply for the Study Abroad programme — just complete the simple online application form during your second year. Don't worry if you haven't selected a course with Study Abroad from the start, you will still have time to transfer to this option.
Our International Office and Academic Coordinators offer personalised advice and guidance on choosing the right destination, completing the application process, and module selection.
Studying abroad has truly been the most amazing experience and I couldn't recommend it anymore. You learn a lot about both life and the subject you're studying.
